Evo X : Brake Line Conversion (26/11/2009 @ 18:29:54)
One of our most popular products here at Sumo and for good reason, they work well and make a huge difference! Do-Luck PowerLine brake lines are another good start for us to start upgrading the standard items for road use.
Seen here, the kit comprises of all 4 lines, banjo fittings and washers, everything you need to replace the standard rubber items on the car for stainless steel - reducing the flex of the rubber under load and giving a more direct feel to the brakes.
These items are on the shelf here at Sumo and an obvious choice in these early stages. If you would like to know more about them, click this link :
Evo X : DAMD Aero Package Installed (26/11/2009 @ 18:20:39)
Things rarely stat standard on our cars and whilst we develop more intricate parts of the car, some of which are major, our guys in the bodyshop let loose on installing the DAMD aero parts on the car. As dealers for DAMD its one of our flagship Evo X products.
Here is what the car looks like, now ''damd'd '' :D - note the lower half front spoiler and side skirt extensions which are visible in this picture
Here's a close-up of the carbon side extensions, perfect fit and very beautiful we think :-
The rear bumper gets the same treatment here, sporting the carbon rear sections :-
Also note the use of some while RAYS wheels which we have been using on the dyno
Its started already, our first task is to see what the standard car gives, as its not our first attempt at tuning an Evo X we have a good idea of what to expect. As we now have first class dyno facilities here at Sumo, its easy to get the car strapped on and our group engineer to set about tinkering with the ECU using a GEMS unit.
Here you can see engineer & ECU guru Chris Hodgson checking the standard settings and remapping using the GEMS unit on our dyno facility.
Here is the car on the dyno, as you can see its also adopted some group decals in the form of Sumo and JRM. (JRM is the parent company of Sumo and shares the same facilities at Rye )
At this stage we have now also installed a HKS twin pipe exhaust system to the car which can been seen in this overall dyno picture :-
For now, we'll keep the dyno figures private as we are waiting on further bits and bobs to complete our stage 1 package but things are very impressive at this stage - more details and graphs will be posted shortly.
Evo X : Britcar Video FQ400 (27/11/2009 @ 11:31:02)
Although an old film from 2008, here is a quick video which shows Sumo's Andy Barnes driving the Mitsubishi works FQ400 racecar in the 24hr race at Silverstone. The car finished the 24hr race - a victorious return for Mitsubishi to circuit racing after such a long absence.
The car continues to be raced at various endurance events throughout the UK, Europe and Middle East by drivers including BTCC's James Kaye and of our course, Andy.
Evo X : The Story begins with an RS (26/11/2009 @ 18:05:11)
Our plans for future development of the Evo X are very extensive. We have a clear plan of developing the car for street, circuit and rally applications and these plans are well under way with various prototype products and assemblies on hand although currently awaiting public release.
Here is our base car for the project, its a brand new Evo X RS model ( 0 miles on the clock - fresh from the factory ). This car has none of the luxuries of the normal FQ models and is therefore perfect for us to get stuck into, pull apart and transform into something 'Sumo-Esque'.
Here she is sat in our race prep area awaiting the first spanner!
This is what the car looks like from the side, all standard stuff! :
Well, thats our starting point - the project will take us in all kinds of directions, of of which will be based on making a car and parts that our customers will find effective when considering the upgrades to thier own cars.
